Getting ready to go to Japan

Konnichiwa!

As you read, please remember that I am going to write most of this for students.

Tonight I had dinner with  Itoh Sahn, Dr. Kobylski, Dr. Haase, Dr. Sturke, and Sessler Sensei. We talked about all of the things that we will do while we are in Japan. It is going to be an exciting trip. I want you to think about what you would like me to learn when I am in Japan and let me know.

While I am gone I will be visiting some different schools. I will be sure to take pictures for you and post them on the Blog if my computer works. Most of the time we will be staying in Tokyo, but for one day we will travel to Hiroshima. This will be a very serious trip for all of us because something very sad happened in Hiroshima a long time ago.

If you think that there are some Japanese words that I should know before I go, please post a message for me, so that I will be ready.

Mr. Dahm

  1. Dear Dahm Kocho sensei,

This is Ms. Theissen's 3rd grade class. We think you should know your numbers in Japanese. Here they are: ichi, ni, san, shi, go, roku, shichi, hachi, kyu, jyu. We think that you should also know how to say "yes" and "no". It is "hai" and "iie" in Japanese. You should watch "Big Bird goes to Japan" before you leave.

  3. Konnichiwa Mr. Dahm,
I am a girl from Mrs. Vandenberg's 5th grade class. One thing you should know is that to be polite, you should bow parallel to the floor. Remember boys keep their hands at their sides and girls bow with their hands in. Thanks for reading! Bye!

Since this is your first time in Japan I think you should have fun and learn as many new japanese words as possible. Also I think you should take a lot of pictures so you can remember your trip to Japan. This is my advice so have an awesome trip to Japan.

  10. Dear Mr. Dahm,

This is Connor Ba from Mrs. Vandenberg's class. I think you should try eating the fried squid. Don't forget that "ohayo" is in the morning and "konnichiwa" is in thte afternoon. You should walk through the Iris path and ride on the bullet train. If you get the chance, you shoudl tryusing the Japanese erasers and try exploring a Japanese Temple!
